Representative Bill Flores says a recent Congressional Budget Office report doesn't bode well for the future of the U.S. economy. Flores joined Brazos Valley This Morning by phone Wednesday to talk about the economy, party conventions and a little Texas A&M football.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an update to the Budget and Economic Outlook for FY2012 through FY2022. The update shows that based on our nation's current path, which includes the pending tax increases and sequester cuts, the U.S. economy will be forced into another recession and the unemployment rate would rise above 9% in 2013.

Flores said he and his House colleagues are trying to pass laws to that realize where growth comes from; Main Street and the private sector.

The U.S. National Debt broke the $16 trillion mark Tuesday. It roughly breaks down to $51,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. Flores said there are two views on fixing the spending situation. He noticed that the democrats at their convention Tuesday night mentioned government solutions. Flores said the House is working on private sector and main street solutions.

"We need to tackle this debt by putting people back to work," said Flores.

Rep. Flores was in Tampa for the Republican National Convention. He got the impression from delegates he talked to that there is a "dark cloud" over the country.

"It's frustrating that we continue to face these economic headwinds, because the headwinds are coming out of Washington," said Flores.

Flores also took a moment to talk about the upcoming Texas A&M football game on September 8th. He was optimistic about the Aggies SEC opener, saying the Maroon and White would win 7-6. It's important to note that Congressman Flores graduated from Texas A&M in 1976.
