FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - Grass fires at Fort Hood have burned about 1,000 acres on two ranges but officials say the blazes are nearly out.

Fort Hood spokesman Tyler Broadway said Wednesday that the fires have pretty much burned themselves out.

One grass fire reported Monday afternoon grew to about 500 acres. Officials on Tuesday were monitoring two grass fires with no reports of anyone hurt or danger to the general public.

Fort Hood is about 70 miles north of Austin.
