A mistrial has been declared in the Central Texas trial of a woman charged in the 2011 fatal stabbing of a Huston-Tillotson University athlete.
A judge in Austin on Wednesday announced jurors were deadlocked in the murder trial of 21-year-old Kaitlyn Ritcherson.
Biology major and women's track team member Fatima Barrie died in December 2011 of wounds suffered during a fight outside an Austin club.
Testimony indicated the two women didn't know each other but Ritcherson was acquainted with a man who got into an argument in the club that carried outside.
Jurors deadlocked 11-1 in favor of conviction. Prosecutors will seek to retry the case.
Ritcherson has maintained her innocence.
Barrie's mother Patricia Davis says she's disappointed with the mistrial but is confident the truth will come out.
