ABILENE, Texas (AP) An inmate and a now-former guard at a federal lockup in West Texas must serve six-month prison terms in a smuggled cellphones case.

A federal judge in Abilene sentenced Ferdinand Trinidad, who was an inmate at the Big Spring Correctional Center. Trinidad in February pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony.

Investigators say guard Matthew Castaneda (kas-tuh-NAY'-duh) in 2012 smuggled cellphones and other contraband to Trinidad in exchange for $1,700 in bribes. Castaneda earlier this year pleaded guilty to making false statements and in May was sentenced to six months in prison and six months of home monitoring.

Trinidad was sentenced Friday. Federal Bureau of Prisons records Monday did not list him as in custody. Details weren't immediately available on his original conviction and sentence.

Castaneda must surrender next week.
