Liberty County Man Arrested For Alleged Hold Up Of Splendora Bank

A Liberty County man facing a multitude of charges, including robbing a Splendora bank on July 28th has been arrested.

Anthony Dewayne Bond was identified by Lufkin bank employees who say he’s the man who tried to rob the First Bank and Trust of East Texas branch in Lufkin on November 5th. Bank employees say Bond passed the teller a note demanding money, but when the stunned worker didn’t respond quickly, he left the bank without receiving any cash.

After watching video of Bond inside the Lufkin bank, Splendora bankers reviewed their surveillance video and determined he was also the man who almost four months ago, gave a bank the teller there a note stating he had a gun and was there to rob the bank.

From the Splendora bank, investigators say Bond was given an undisclosed amount of money and was able to make his getaway in Dodge pickup truck. Nobody was hurt during the robbery.

Last week, Texas Rangers contacted the 23-year-old who they say told them he would turn himself in but when he failed to appear on Friday, Bond was located and arrested at a Tyler County home. He remains in the Angelina County Jail with bonds totaling $120,000 for robbery, burglary and providing a false statement.
