Lifeguard at Houston-Area Pool Drowns Doing Laps

KATY, Texas Investigators say a lifeguard at a Houston-area pool has drowned while swimming laps.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says foul play does not appear to have played a role in the death of 19-year-old Dustin Kruthaupt.

Officials say the drowning happened Saturday afternoon in a pool at the Rosewood Recreation Center in the Katy area. The teen was also a lifeguard at the center.

The sheriff's office Monday said witnesses reported Kruthaupt was swimming laps and tried to swim the length of the pool without surfacing. Lifeguards began doing CPR on the teen when noticed him floating to the surface.

An autopsy has been order.
