Man Charged, Hospitalized After Deputy's Killing

MCCAMEY, Texas (AP) A 50-year-old suspect has been charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of a West Texas sheriff's deputy.

The Upton County Sheriff's Office says Billy "Bubba" Kennedy died late Wednesday at a convenience store in McCamey, about 50 miles south of Odessa.

Gary David Green has been charged in the shooting. He remains hospitalized in critical condition in Odessa with multiple gunshot wounds received in the shootout. The Odessa American reports bond is set at $1 million.
