PATTISON, Texas -- Investigators are trying to figure out why a Houston-area man was lying on a road when he was run over by a sheriff's vehicle and later died.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victim as 28-year-old Maurice Dixon of Berkshire.
Authorities say Dixon was on a road about 5 miles west of Pattison when he was run over early Saturday. Officials are trying to determine if Dixon had been drinking alcohol and was involved in a disturbance where a Waller County sheriff's deputy was headed.
Officials say the deputy did not see Dixon on the highway. The victim was transported to a hospital where he died.
