McAllen mayoral candidate Jim Darling, a city commissioner and hospital general counsel, will have no opponents in the May election.
Nobody had filed to run against him by the Friday deadline.
Darling tells The Monitor in McAllen, "I'm really looking forward to getting to work for McAllen and for the citizens."
Darling, who is 64, is the general counsel at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. He also spent about 28 years as McAllen's top attorney before running for the City Commission six years ago. Darling narrowly won two races against Jose R. "Pepe" Cabeza de Vaca, the popular publisher of Social Life magazine.
Darling says that even without an opponent for mayor, he'll still campaign and attend candidate forums, but probably will purchase fewer signs.
Election Day is May 11.
