HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Convicted killer Keith Thurmond hopes the U.S. Supreme Court keeps him from the Texas death chamber for the shooting deaths of his estranged wife and her boyfriend more than 10 years ago outside Houston.
Thurmond faces lethal injection Wednesday evening in Huntsville for fatally shooting his 32-year-old wife, Sharon, and neighbor Guy Fernandez. They were living together down the street from Thurmond near Magnolia in Montgomery County.
Attorneys for the 52-year-old Thurmond are arguing lawyers earlier in his appeals process were "grossly deficient" in failing to track down background about the former mechanic's abusive childhood.
