The Humane Society of the United States has seized hundreds of dogs that were allegedly being hoarded on a property in Montgomery County.

It happened Tuesday night in Willis at a dog rescue facility.

The dogs, mostly pitbulls, were inside cages stacked three feet high.

Investigators say the cages were welded shut and the canines were living and sleeping in their own waste.

“We came on-scene and found conditions were absolutely horrible,” said Katie Jarl of the Humane Society of the United States. “Many of the dogs were living in cramped, stacked cages without access to clean water, veterinary care, and certainly without access to any outdoor enrichment.”

Constables with Montgomery and Harris Counties assisted with the raid.

After being rescued, the dogs were transported to a temporary shelter. They will be evaluated by the humane society before being put up for adoption.
