A South Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2010 beating death of his spouse.

Comal County jurors on Thursday decided the penalty for 54-year-old Paul C. Mata of New Braunfels.

The jury last week convicted Mata of murder in the October 2010 death of his 46-year-old wife, Diana

Investigators say Mata attacked his wife then called 911 to report that she had overdosed on drugs. An autopsy determined the woman died of head trauma.

The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung reports two of Mata's ex-wives testified that he repeatedly beat them.
