Emergency officials say all 10 people on a public transit bus in West Texas have escaped unharmed after the engine caught fire.

The El Paso Fire Department on Tuesday said the blaze apparently involved mechanical trouble on the Sun Metro bus.

Authorities say the fire happened Monday night when nine passengers and the driver were on board.

Department officials say the driver tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, but failed and fire crews were summoned.

No damage estimate was immediately released Tuesday.
