WEST, Texas -- Authorities say they are conducting a "slow and methodical" search of the site of a massive Texas plant explosion.
Officials on Monday did not update previous figures of at least 14 killed and 200 injured in last week's blast in the Texas town of West. They are allowing residents who live on the perimeter of the blast zone - areas known as "Stage 1" and "Stage 2" - to come back to their homes. People who live closest to the site are not allowed in yet.
Assistant State Fire Marshal Kelly Kistner says officials are still investigating how the explosion occurred as volunteer firefighters were working to put out a fire.
West Mayor Pro Tem Steve Vanek says restoring water and natural gas to the whole city could take weeks.
