The 31-year-old daughter of a San Antonio police sergeant has been sentenced to 70 years in prison after she was convicted of murdering the father of her child to collect on his insurance policy.
Vanessa Cameron was sentenced Monday in the death of 26-year-old Samuel Allen Johnson Jr. two years ago. The San Antonio Express-News reports prosecutors had asked for a life sentence. Defense attorney Joseph Esparza asked for a sentence of less than 20 years in prison, citing her otherwise clean criminal record.
According to trial testimony, Johnson had taken out a $750,000 life insurance policy less than a year before his body was found at an east San Antonio graveyard. Cameron was accused of hiring two people to kill him.
