HOUSTON - Heavy rains in the Houston area have caused some road closures while several creeks were expected to flow out of their banks.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Haines says the area has been rainy all week, but a line that formed overnight brought heavy rains Thursday morning.

Michael Walter, spokesman for the City of Houston Mayor's Office of Emergency Management, says the heaviest rainfall seems to be falling in the northwest part of Houston, where some roads are being closed due to minor street flooding.

Harris County officials say Cypress Creek is expected to flow out of its banks Thursday morning, as are additional creeks and bayous. But they say there is currently no threat to homes.

Rain is forecast in the area through the end of the week.
