The Virginia Community College System announced today their hire of Dr. Ted Raspiller as incoming president of John Tyler Community College in the communities of Chester and Midlothian, Va.
Raspiller, Blinn’s president of Brazos County campuses, assumes the helm upon the announced retirement in early August of current President Marshall Smith.
“Ted is a one-of-a-kind leader in higher education,” said Dr. Harold Nolte, Blinn’s district president. “He will be tough to replace, and we will miss him.”
A national search will begin within weeks for the next president of Brazos County campuses.
Raspiller will serve in his current role through July, at which time the new hire will assume responsibility or an interim will be named.
A distinguished scholar of community colleges, Raspiller has twice served Blinn during his long tenure in higher education. He returned to Blinn in 2010 as provost, a position he held for one year before being appointed to lead the College’s largest campus, in Bryan. He previously served as dean of technical and workforce education at Blinn from 1999 to 2003.
During his recent appointment, Raspiller spearheaded the renewal of the Blinn TEAM partnership with Texas A&M University, a nationally recognized transfer agreement that co-enrolls more than 1,000 students at both institutions. His community service included membership on the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the board of the Research Valley Partnership.
College officials expect to post the president of Brazos County campuses position within two weeks.
