AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The leader of Planned Parenthood says abortion-rights opponents in Texas have won this political round - but it'll cost them dearly down the road.
Cecile Richards is president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She said Friday night state lawmakers poised to pass sweeping new restrictions on abortion statewide "lit a fuse."
The daughter of the late former Democratic Texas governor Ann Richards said those lawmakers are "not listening to the people." In her words, "They're running roughshod over the political process."
The Texas Senate was on the verge of approving the abortion bill that stalled amid a marathon filibuster last month.
