HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Texas death row inmate Arturo Diaz says he's really never been a violent person, but his criminal record shows otherwise.

The 37-year-old Rio Grande Valley man is set to die Thursday evening in Huntsville for the slaying of a 25-year-old man stabbed nearly 100 times during a robbery at a McAllen apartment in 1999.

Diaz also has two life prison terms for attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery, plus a 94-year sentence for aggravated sexual assault.

Diaz's scheduled injection with a lethal dose of pentobarbital would be the 13th this year in Texas. It also would be the first in Texas to use pentobarbital supplied to the Texas prison system by an as yet undisclosed vendor or manufacturer. The state's previous supply is now out of date.
