The San Antonio Area Foundation has received a more than $7 million gift from investor philanthropist Mary Jane K. Lewis to be used exclusively for charitable purposes.

Lewis died in 2011 and bequeathed the money as a permanent fund for annual grants.

Foundation spokesman Joel Williams tells the San Antonio Express-News the foundation will get 42 percent of the Lewis Charitable Fund's yearly distributions. The fund was established in 1994.

Foundation vice president Cynthia Hamilton says Lewis guaranteed the causes she cared about during her life by including a charitable fund in her estate plans.
