SAN ANTONIO (AP) Transportation officials have earmarked more than $800 million to expand and improve roadways in the San Antonio area.
The Texas Department of Transportation says San Antonio drivers waste more than 40 million hours annually sitting in traffic on some regional roadways.
TxDOT on Monday joined city and Bexar (bayr) County officials, the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority and VIA (VEE'-uh) Metropolitan Transit to unveil the plan.
The expansion will include Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 281 and Loop 1604. Construction should start by early near year.
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro says the agreement represents a major breakthrough in alleviating traffic congestion in the region.
