FORT BEND COUNTY- A Katy Elementary School student has been apprehended after bringing a Swiss Army knife and an unloaded BB gun to school on Tuesday.

A student who saw the weapons told a teacher, and the student who brought them was immediately taken from class while the weapons were confiscated by Katy ISD Police.

A letter was sent out to parents from the Principal Leslie Smuts:
"At no time did the student make a threat towards other students... I ask that you use this incident today as a teachable moment with your child to help confirm with them the important role they play in keeping our school safe."

The child who alerted teachers of the items has been applauded for telling authorities.
