SAN ANTONIO - A military jury will hear evidence in the sentencing of an Air Force basic training instructor convicted as part of a wider sex scandal at a base in Texas.
The jury will begin hearing evidence Thursday at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio in the case against Tech Sgt. Christopher Smith.
He was convicted Wednesday of wooing one female trainee and fraternizing with another at Lackland. Smith was acquitted of making sexual advances on the female trainee he wooed and of obstructing justice.
Investigators say at least 38 female trainees were victimized and 15 instructors implicated in the scandal.
Staff Sgt. Luis Walker was sentenced to a 20-year prison term last month after being convicted of rape and sexual assault.
