Service Set for Texas Deputy as DWI Suspect Held

SHERMAN, Texas (AP) - Services will be held this week for a North Texas sheriff's deputy who died after being struck by a vehicle operated by a suspected drunken driver.

The funeral for Grayson County sheriff's Deputy Chad Key will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Sherman. Burial will follow at Burleson Cemetery.

Key was hit Saturday night while directing traffic near Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas.

A Whitesboro man with two previous DWI convictions faces charges including murder, intoxication manslaughter causing the death of a peace officer and aggravated assault. Ricky Trent Stanley Jr. was being held Tuesday on $3.7 million bond.

Sheriff's officials say donations to the Chad Key Memorial Fund to benefit his three sons can be made at Landmark Banks in Texas and Oklahoma.
