Smithville A large wildfire northwest of Smithville has forced multiple home evacuations as emergency crews fight the blaze.
Officials say the flames are concentrated in the area southeast of Copeland Hills Road and FM 2571 and moving in a northwest direction.
The Bastrop County Fire Chief says 220 acres have burned so far, 30 people have been evacuated, and one structure has been saved.
It is zero percent contained. And there is no word on the cause.
Crews are trying to get ahead of it to get contained, but dense vegetation and wind has been an issue, according to officials.
A STAR Flight helicopter is dumping water ahead of the fire to get it contained. And over 100 firefighters from different departments in the area are assisting.
Most of the evacuations are concentrated near Dump Ground Road and Upton-Smithville Road.
A spokesperson for the Smithville Police Department says evacuees are being taken to the First Baptist Church located at 300 Hudgins St.
Smithville is about 10 miles southeast of Bastrop.
