Prosecutors say Democratic state Rep. Ron Reynolds has been charged with illegally soliciting court cases for the second time in the past year.
Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said Monday that Reynolds is charged with barratry, which is more commonly described as "ambulance chasing." Ligon said the Houston-area Democrat was aware of the charges and driving back from Austin toward his home district.
At Reynolds' office in the Capitol, an aide who declined to give her name said the office had no immediate comment.
The 39-year-old Reynolds is an attorney who faced similar charges in Harris County last year. Those charges were dropped, and Ligon said his investigation is unrelated to that case.
Ligon said the ringleader of the scheme was the owner of a chiropractor clinic.
