Several Texas politicians made the trip to College Station Tuesday for a battle on the gridiron. For the first time in nearly 50 years, freshmen members of the State House took on the veterans at Kyle Field in their annual flag football game.

It's a tradition that happens every two years during the legislative session. Also a fun way the freshmen state representatives to get to know other members of the legislature.

Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp conducted the coin toss. He said he was proud to have them playing at Kyle Field.

"We want to make sure they see what A&M is about; especially in the middle of a legislative session," Sharp said.

Sharp said they worked hard to move the flag football game from UT's Memorial Stadium in Austin to College Station. It even fueled a bit of A&M, UT rivalry in the game.

About 70 Texas lawmakers and staff members traveled to Kyle Field. The freshman lawmakers won, 42 to 21.
