70? 75? 65? How about one uniform speed limit across Texas highways? That's what legislators are proposing at the capitol.

Legislators are saying they don't want one speed limit during the day and another at night.

They're proposing 75 miles per hour be the new uniform speed along Texas highways.

State Representative Gary Elkins says the new speed limit would alleviate congestion on the roadways while still being safe.

Legislators say the bill would mostly apply to divided highways like Highway 6 I-35 and I-45.

Ultimately though, they say the Texas Department of Transportation will have the say so as to where the speeds are increased.

"This is all about moving traffic at a uniform speed and it’s been proven over and over again that uniform speeds are better than various speeds," said State Representative Gary Elkins of Houston
