HOUSTON - The lone survivor of a suburban Houston shooting that claimed the lives of her parents and four siblings has attended a gathering at a local elementary school to honor her and her family.
The Houston Chronicle reports that 15-year-old Cassidy Stay sat center stage Saturday and thanked first responders. The girl, released from the hospital Friday after being injured in the attack, said she was on a path to recovery.
Her aunt's former husband, Ronald Lee Haskell, is accused of storming into the teen's family home Wednesday and shooting to death her mother, father and four siblings ages 4 to 13. Stay suffered a skull fracture from a bullet graze but survived by playing dead, then called to warn police that Haskell intended to go to her grandparent's house.
