WACO (April 19, 2012)--Transplanted Motor City Madman Ted Nugent said he met for about 40 minutes Thursday with two U.S. Secret Service agents who wanted to ensure controversial remarks he made about the president at the annual National Rifle Association convention were not intended as threats.

The meeting took place in Ardmore, Okla., where Nugent is scheduled to perform Thursday evening.

Nugent said he saluted the two agents for their professionalism and said he thought the meeting went well.

At last weekend's National Rifle Association convention, Nugent referred to what he called the president’s "evil, America-hating administration" and compared Mr. Obama and the administration to “coyotes” that needed to be shot.

"We need to ride into the battlefield and chop their heads off in November,” he said.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year,” Nugent told an interviewer during the NRA event, according to various media reports.

“You're laughing. Why are you laughing? That's not funny. I'm as serious as a heart attack,” he said.

A Secret Service spokesman confirmed that the agency was following-up on the issue, but would not provide details.

The comments produced a backlash from Democrats.

The Democratic National Committee produced a web video that included some of Nugent’s remarks and that pointed out that Romney welcomed Nugent’s endorsement last month.

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman, tweeted that Nugent’s comments about the president were “vile & beyond the pale.”

She called on the Romney campaign to denounce the remarks.

The Romney campaign later issued a statement that said, “Divisive language is offensive, no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from. Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.”
