WACO, Texas - A central Texas teenager has pleaded guilty to murder in the 2011 Waco drive-by fatal shooting of another youth.
A McLennan County jury later this month will consider punishment for 18-year-old Leonard Trey Nino of Waco.
Nino, who pleaded guilty Monday, faces up to life in prison for the death of 17-year-old Nathan Romo of Lorena. Nino's 29-year-old uncle, Willie Contreras, is serving a life term after being convicted last fall over the killing.
Investigators believe Nino and one of Romo's friends planned to fight. Contreras went along to support his nephew.
Contreras has said he fired 11 shots at the ground and near Romo's vehicle. Nino told police he fired into the air to scare Romo.
Romo ended up shot in the head. His truck had several bullet holes.
