Education committees in both the Texas House and Senate are discussing a raft of bills, including the possibility of offering expanded "school choice" to students with disabilities.

The Senate panel will discuss 11 proposed laws on Tuesday morning. Among them is the measure extending certain disabled students more educational options beyond traditional public schools.

Its House counterpart meets later in the day on eight bills, including one that would offer public education grants to some special education students.

Its members will also hear about a measure authorizing grants for students to attend public schools outside their home districts. That could open the door to open enrollment across public school district lines.

Both committees have previously heard many high-profile bills, including ones allowing an unlimited number of charter schools in Texas.
