Top education leaders in the Texas Senate are set to mull high school graduation requirements, while their House counterparts tackle school accountability and funding issues.

The Senate Public Education Committee meets Tuesday morning for invited testimony on curriculum requirements for graduation.

Later, the House Public Education Committee will hear from its own invited witnesses for updates on school accountability and student assessment as it relates to state standardized testing.

The House committee will also examine where funding for public school stands after last week, when a state District Court declared the way Texas funds its schools unconstitutional.

The court found the system inadequate and inequitable.

The case will be appealed and eventually reach the state Supreme Court, though, making any legislative action in response unlikely at least until 2014.
