A South Texas police officer has been accused of having an inappropriate online and sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Corpus Christi police Officer Robert McChester Jr. was in federal custody Wednesday, a day after being arrested. The 27-year-old officer has been charged with solicitation of a minor.

Chief Floyd Simpson said Tuesday night that McChester, who's been an officer more than four years, is on paid leave and a police review could lead to his firing.

Prosecutors say McChester last May allegedly began communicating online with the girl. Investigators say the pair also met several times and had an inappropriate relationship.

She complained this month to medical professionals.

Officials had no information on an attorney for McChester, who was in the Coastal Bend Detention Center.
