WACO, Texas (AP) A homeless man and another person have been charged with killing a Central Texas resident known for opening his house to transients - including one of the suspects.
McLennan County jail records show 44-year-old Roy Lee Boykin and 58-year-old Jimmie Smith Jr. were being held Wednesday on capital murder charges. Bond is $1 million each.
An affidavit says Boykin is homeless and stayed with 75-year-old Albert Kilgo of Chalk Bluff for about three weeks until being kicked out on Jan. 7.
Investigators believe Kilgo changed the locks after the unspecified dispute. Relatives on Saturday found Kilgo beaten to death at home.
Both suspects were located at hotels. Boykin, who allegedly had the victim's car, was booked Sunday. Smith was booked Tuesday.
Online jail records don't list attorneys for them.
