Joel Martinez, director of Waco Regional Airport, confirmed to KWTX News 10 that the last United Airlines commuter flight will depart from the Waco Regional Airport on September 4.
United Airlines provides daily flights from Waco to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
Martinez said he was notified about the changes on Thursday.
Waco Public Information Officer, Larry Holze, said that the move should not reflect poorly on the city's image.
"Hopefully another airline will see the opportunity here because they were doing good business and just because there maybe cut backs across the nation does not mean Waco is a bad investment," Holze said.
The airport had been in talks with the airline and its plan to scrap its daily flights to Houston came as a shock to Martinez.
Airports in Victoria and Beaumont will also lose its flights provided by United to Houston Intercontinental.
As of Saturday night there is no word if Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport would also be affected by United's decision.
