EL PASO, Texas (AP) A West Texas congressman has asked a federal agency to investigate all El Paso County school districts amid a cheating scandal at some campuses.
U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke of El Paso on Wednesday made the request to the Department of Education. O'Rourke also wants the Texas Education Agency and the El Paso Independent School District to help locate students denied an education.
The El Paso Times (http://bit.ly/12MYIfk ) reports O'Rourke says the children should be allowed to re-enroll.
A federal audit released last Friday found several EPISD schools prevented some low-performing students from taking required accountability tests. Ex-superintendent Lorenzo Garcia last fall was sentenced to more than three years in prison for fraud.
The Department of Education didn't immediately comment. TEA officials on Wednesday hadn't received a copy of the letter.
