Woman Dies After Fall at Climbing Gym in Grapevine

GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) A woman has died of her injuries after falling at a local climbing gym, police say.

Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department says police and fire personnel were called about 5 p.m. Sunday to the Summit climbing gym on Mustang Drive to respond to an injured customer. He says when emergency responders arrived they discovered that a 52-year-old woman who had apparently fallen from a height of 25 to 30 feet.

Eberling says the injured woman was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The woman's name is being withheld pending notification of family members, according to Eberling.

He says police have launched a preliminary investigation into the fall.

A telephone message left Sunday night with Summit was not immediately returned.
