Madison County- There has been a major accident on Interstate (IH) 45 in Madison County. Both northbound and southbound lanes are closed between US 190/SH 21 and SH 75. The accident involves 4 truck tractor (18 wheelers) and multiple passenger vehicles.
Emergency personnel are working the scene. The life flight is in route to the accident. Motorists should avoid this area.
According to the Department of Public Saftey the accident was caused by and 18-wheeler trying to change lanes. The 18-wheeler was heading north on I-45 when the driver side swiped another vehicle. The driver lost contro of the vehicle, jack-knifed, crossed the median and hit another 18-wheel truck head on.
The two drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
UPDATE 3:50 PM:
Emergency personnel have been able to open the northbound lanes of IH-45 between US 190/SH 21 and SH 75. The southbound lanes of IH-45 between SH 75 and US 190/SH 21 are closed until at 7pm this evening while emergency personnel continue to work this accident.
UPDATE 5:00 PM:
The southbound lanes of IH-45 between SH 75 and US 190/SH21 remain closed due to accident involving two 18-wheelers (tractor trailers) and two vehicles. At this time, we know of no fatalities at this accident. The southbound lanes will remained closed until approximately 7pm while emergency personnel work this accident.

All lanes of IH-45 are now open
