Aggie Astronaut Walks in Space, Whoops it Up

Just as Aggie Mike Fossum was about to leave Space Shuttle Discovery for his Tuesday spacewalk, NASA heard a simple sound from him.

"Whoop," he exclaimed.

NASA's response: "Knew that was coming. Wouldn't be the same without it."

Fossum made the fourth space walk of his career along with first timer Ron Garan.

The two began work on installing a school-bus sized lab onto the International Space Station, and also repaired some damage to the station's exterior.

It's the first of three walks for Fossum, who talked to News 3 from Discovery about the schedule of events when it comes to the installation.

"It's a lot of robotic operations to remove the lab from the payload bay of the shuttle and move it over and install it on the station," Fossum told News 3. "Then, we'll go back outside a good part of the second spacewalk -- and even part of the third -- to finish up things."

Ironically, Tuesday was the 43rd anniversary of the first ever spacewalk conducted by an American. Ed White walked in space during the Gemini 4 mission.
