COLLEGE STATION, Aug. 7, 08 - Texas A&M University administrators Sherylon Carroll, John Crawford and Phillip Ray have been chosen by Gov. Rick Perry to participate in the Governor's Executive Development Program.
Saying that effective leadership is crucial for the improvement of state government, Perry requested nominations for the next class of the three-week program. In response to this request, Texas A&M President Elsa Murano nominated the three administrators.
Carroll, associate vice president for communications in the Division of Marketing & Communications, oversees the university's daily media relations, internal communications and external affairs.
Crawford, association vice president for finance and controller, has extensive knowledge of higher education financial issues and has served in several leadership positions within the university's Division of Finance.
Ray, assistant vice president for strategic sourcing and contract administration, has worked in both the private sector and higher education, in addition to serving in local government positions. He also is in the Division of Finance.
The special executive development program is offered once each year and is taught by nationally recognized experts from the public and private sectors.
"This program provides our top executives in state government access to the best and most current thinking in executive management. It also introduces an interagency network of government leaders dedicated to planning the future of Texas," Perry said in announcing the selections for the program.
This year, the first week of the training will be Sept. 21-26 in Galveston, week two will be Oct. 26-30 in Addison and week three will be Dec. 8-11 in Austin.
