Texas A&M University ranks among the top 15 universities in the nation in "yield" – the percentage of freshmen who enroll at a institution after having been formally accepted there – according to a U.S. News & World Report on-line story titled "Most Popular Colleges: National Universities."

With a 56-percent yield, Texas A&M tied with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 13th on the list dominated by private institutions, headed by Harvard with a 79-percent yield.

Texas A&M Assistant Provost for Enrollment Alice Reinarz said she was pleased but not surprised to learn of the high U.S. News ranking. "Texas A&M has earned a strong reputation for an outstanding educational experience at a 'best value' cost. We continually hear from students that they are eager to come to a flagship institution where they can be part of the close-knit Aggie family—and that enthusiasm is invariably shared by their parents," she observed.

U.S. News editors used figures for the fall 2007 entering classes in compiling their list. Texas A&M's acceptance rate that year is shown at 76 percent.

"If a school has a high yield (a large portion of those admitted enroll), it means that the school is most likely very popular with a top reputation and the students are highly motivated to go there," the editors note in their introduction to the list.
