U.S. Representative Chet Edwards (D-Waco) will join Army Secretary Pete Geren, Texas A&M Chancellor Mike McKinney, and Congressman John Carter (R-Round Rock) at a Capitol signing ceremony Thursday April 30th to officially transfer 662 acres from Fort Hood to the Texas A&M University System for the creation of Texas A&M – Central Texas in Killeen.

“This is an important day for Central Texas that will pay significant economic and educational dividends in the near future and for many generations to come,” said Edwards, Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee.

Congressman Edwards authored the provision to authorize the land transfer of 662 acres from Ft. Hood to Texas A&M University System in the Fiscal Year 2005 Defense Authorization bill signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 28, 2004.
