Texas A&M University is hosting the 2009 regional conference of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences (SVU) on June 5-7, 2009 in the Memorial Student Center. The theme for this year’s event is “Contributions of Czechs and Slovaks to the American Southwest” and features presenters from the state, the nation, and the Czech Republic.
One highlight of the event will be a welcome delivered by H.E. Petr Kolář, ambassador of the Czech Republic. Conference presentations are divided into themed panels. Three sessions will address Czechs and Slovaks in Texas history. Other presentations will focus on the Czech and Slovak influence in medicine, history in general, political science, education, music and theater, the American Southwest.
The 2009 SVU Regional Conference is organized under the aegis of the president of the Czech Republic, Václav Klaus, with support from the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts and the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas (CEFT).
