Preparation has begun for two major construction projects at Texas A&M University.
The planned reconstruction of Military Walk from the north entrance of Rudder Theatre to Ross Street is scheduled to begin next week and construction fencing is now being installed for the project, announced Texas A&M Vice President for Facilities Charles A. Sippial.
Parking Lot 44, located between the Coke and YMCA Buildings, has been designated as the construction lay-down area for this project, and fencing around this area will be put up Monday (Aug. 10).
To accommodate pedestrian traffic, Sippial said four different pedestrian crossings will be provided: at Ross Street, near the Coke Building, at Beutel Health Center and at the north entrance of Rudder Theatre. This project is scheduled for completion in March 2010.
Construction fencing for the Memorial Student Center renovation project is also scheduled to be put in place beginning Tuesday, Sippial added. The fenced area will include the Rudder Fountain Plaza and most of the north lawn area.
The construction lay-down area for the MSC renovation will require the partial closure of Joe Routt Boulevard and Clark Street near the MSC from Tuesday (Aug. 11) through completion of the project in 2012, Sippial noted. Joe Routt will be closed to all traffic between Clark Street and South Houston Street. Clark Street will be closed to northbound traffic.
