TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY Texas A&M University will not be the same for many students after this semester. With their cherished president gone, many students will miss him dearly and say campus will forever change.
"At first I was really shocked," said Adriana Cardenas, a junior at A&M. "I'm just sad he's not going to be the one I'm shaking hands with at graduation."
As a first generation student like President Loftin, she was able to understand him on a personal level.
"He tries to connect with us," Cardenas said. "He puts us at the same level where he's at. He just wants us to feel comfortable and he wants us to love the university as much as he does, so it's just really been family based university."
Cardenas is not the only one who will miss the president. Thousands of people have taken to social media to express how they feel about his new position.
"We're sad in Aggieland to see him leave, but we are excited for his future and he will be spreading the Aggie brand throughout the SEC," said Texas A&M Student Body President Reid Joseph.
He worked closely with the president and considers his time with him a blessing. "President Loftin, on behalf of the student body we are so grateful for all you have done for us," he said. "We could not be appreciative of your leadership."
Joseph said the University of Missouri is lucky to have him as their Chancellor. "They are very, very fortunate to have such a wonderful man to lead them as they embark in the college experience," he said.
Most importantly, he will never forget how the president made each student feel as if they can make a difference in this world. Even though he may be off to new adventures, his spirit will remain a part of the 12th man forever.
