A trio of arrests in the Northgate District of College Station early Sunday morning included a Texas A&M football player who was a standout at Brenham High School.

Kyle Mangan, a 21-year-old linebacker, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct for fighting, a misdemeanor. Christopher Jones and Mark Moeller Jr. also were charged with disorderly conduct, and Jones also faces an evading arrest charge.

According to police reports, just after 2 a.m. Sunday, authorities came upon Moeller being held back by others on College Main near University Drive and sporting a bloody nose. Officers determined that Mangan and Jones had been fighting with Moeller, with Jones holding Mangan back at one point.

Police had to chase down Jones after he reportedly ignored an officer's order and left the area. Another officer chased him down and took him to the ground as he resisted.

Jones later told police there had been in a heated verbal exchange between two groups of people that eventually got physical. In his interview, Mangan said he had been slapped in the face and began throwing punches in response. He had a red mark on his face and cuts on his hands, according to the police reports.

Authorities also noted the smell of alcohol on the breaths of all the men involved.

Mangan was red-shirted for the 2008 season, but started ten games in his first campaign on the field in 2009. He played the majority of last season despite a nagging shoulder injury, and was set to complete for a starting linebacker spot again this season.

“I have been made aware and it is an unfortunate incident," A&M Head Football Coach Mike Sherman said in a statement released by Aggie Athletics. "Seems like some people have too much free time on their hands. That will be addressed shortly, as well as facing the consequences for this untimely and avoidable incident.”
