Each year, the Mays Business School tracks Aggie-owned and Aggie-led businesses and how they're growing and impacting the world at large and even at home. And each year in the fall, Mays' Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship honors those businesses.
Friday marked the eighth annual Aggie 100 to honor the 100 fastest growing Aggie businesses. Around 700 people were at the Zone Club at Kyle Field to hear the list. Three oil-related companies topped the rankings for 2012.
Navidad Resources out of Tyler (206 percent growth), MudTech Services out of Houston (192 percent) and Tolteq out of Cedar Park (160 percent) saw the biggest growth over the past year.
Local businesses also made the list this year:
4. Woodbolt International (144 percent)
60. JB Knowledge Technologies (42 percent)
65. B&B Laboratories (40 percent)
66. The Pool Guy (38 percent)
84. Brazos Technology (34 percent)
"Aggies have paved roads to success across industries and business sectors, as well as across generations,” said Richard Lester, the executive director of the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship. "Aggie leaders have proven time and time again that even in tough economic times, solid business ideas, tenacity and hard work pay off."
This years list had a mix of regulars and newcomers. Forty businesses were part of the Aggie 100 for the first time. Eight had been on the list at least five times.
