It's the beginning of a new era for Texas A&M Men's Basketball.
New head coach Billy Kennedy was introduced to the media Monday on the A&M campus.
Billy Kennedy cut to chase and said he's already got his eye on the prize; that is to win national championships.
And he's excited to be coming back as the new head coach, 20 years after he left here as an assistant coach.
Kennedy is already dressing the part of the Aggie Men's Basketball Coach with the ceremonial maroon jacket.
"My goal here is to win national championships. This is a place where it obviously happens. Coach Blair who came over and introduced himself to me is here and I'm very thankful what he's done with the women's program is tremendous," said Billy Kennedy.
During the news conference, News 3 asked Coach Kennedy how long he'd like to stay.
"This is a destination job for me. My wife you look at my track record I've climbed the ladder a little bit differently than a lot of people. This is a dream job for me I don't wanna go anywhere; there's no Maryland, Kansas, Carolina whoever," Kennedy said.
Texas A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne praised Kennedy and said he'll keep the Aggies on the national stage.
"When you start looking around the United States of America this man fits the bill. Does he have Texas ties? He's been on our staff here before. He recruits the State of Texas," said Bill Byrne.
We also spoke with the coach's wife Mary. She and their 6-year-old daughter Anna Cate will soon call College Station home, moving from Murray State University in Kentucky.
"This is Billy's dream job and we are excited to be on the road and Anna Cate and I are part of the package. She's missed one game in her life of six years and we are thrilled to death to be Aggies and we can't wait to see what happens in the future," said Mary Kennedy.
"What's important to me. Number one character. Texas A&M represents great character. I want to have kids that have character. I think special things happen when you have character," said Billy Kennedy.
Based on reaction we saw at the news conference, it looks like excitement is building in Aggieland.
News 3 also spoke with Bill Byrne about more particulars on Kennedy's contract as well as salary and he said he couldn't get into those specifics, because the Texas A&M regents haven't voted to approve the deal yet.
