Under the recently passed Senate Bill 1107, all Texas college and university students are required to receive the meningitis vaccine within 5 years of school entry. Previously, students were required to receive the vaccine before school entry only if they were going to live on campus.
However, all students are now required to receive the vaccine, regardless of living on or off campus. The highest rates of meningitis are found in ages 16 to 21, therefore, it is recommended that the vaccine be given a few years before college entry.
The Brazos County Health Department (BCHD) Immunization Clinic offers the meningitis vaccine for $5 for ages 18 and below, and $15 for ages 19 and above until August 19th. After August 19th the vaccine for ages 19 and above will be $30.
The immunization clinic hours are:
Mon. 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Tues. 9:00-10:30 a.m. (Adults only); 2:00-5:30 p.m.
Wed. 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Fri. 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
